During my 3 years of apprentiship i did not have my own camera. So i lent a 30 years old Rolleiflex 6x6 camera and started with portrait photography of my friends in the streettheatre group i was engaged in at that time, and a serie of zurich artist Mario Comensoli.
The camera was not properly working, for example the light meter was scratched, nearby unvisible and not really helpful, and sometimes the film wasn,t transportet from frame to frame, so some pictures where double exposed. But anyways i took the camera all over and shooted in all light conditions, learning by doing.

One of the portraits, i shot of Mario Comensoli was used for a catalogue title. It was at least 3 stops undexposed, and so i had to spend a full day in the lab to get a print which was more or les usable. Irene rüfenacht, my later girlfriend and partner helped me with her great lab experience to solve the problem.

This pictures where shot on the same weekend, during theatre rehearsals of our group.
So i started my career with portraiture, but did not do it for nearly 30 years. The last 10 years i explore it newly and still love it.
